Why you won’t see a starting price here
Rental prices around the Emerald Coast change with the season, flight demand, and busy condo check-in days. A price that looks right today may be out of date by next week, so I’ll only list real quotes I’ve checked. In the meantime, here’s what to look for when you compare prices from Fort Walton Beach and VPS.

I’ll include the date, pickup location, car class, rate, and source with each quote.

Base rate vs out-the-door total
The daily rate you see in a search result may not be the amount you pay when you return the car. Before booking, check whether your total includes:
- Florida sales tax and Okaloosa County discretionary sales surtax on taxable charges (confirm current combined rate via Florida DOR discretionary surtax information)
- Florida rental-car surcharge of $2.00 per day for the first 30 days of a qualifying rental (DOR rental car surcharge)
- Airport concession recovery fees / customer facility charges when picking up at VPS
- Young-driver or additional-driver fees
- One-way fees, toll-program daily fees, prepaid fuel, GPS, and optional CDW/liability products
Seasonality on the Emerald Coast
Cars can be harder to find, and prices may rise, around spring break, summer, holidays, and big local events. You may have more choices in quieter months or with a mid-week pickup. If you have your heart set on an SUV or convertible for a beach trip, reserve early.
Airport pickup pricing vs city branches
Picking up at VPS saves you a trip into town, but airport fees may make it more expensive than a branch on Eglin Parkway or Beal Parkway. Compare the same car, company, and dates at both locations, then add what it would cost to get to the city branch. Also check its hours in case your flight is delayed. See our VPS airport rental guide.
Fuel, mileage, and deposits
Full-to-full fuel policies are usually the clearest. Prepaid fuel rarely refunds unused gallons. Unlimited mileage is common for standard leisure rentals but not guaranteed on long-term or specialty vehicles. Brands place authorization holds on cards; debit rules can be stricter. Enterprise’s Fort Walton Beach page, for example, documents debit-card conditions and deposit amounts that vary by vehicle class.
Insurance and damage-waiver math
Optional coverage can add a lot to the total. Before you decide, check whether your auto policy covers rentals and what your credit card includes; card coverage may require you to pay for the rental with that card and decline the rental company’s collision waiver. We can’t review your policy, so confirm the details with your insurer or card provider.
Questions to ask before you book

- What is the under-25 daily fee and which classes can I drive? (under-25 guide)
- How are Mid-Bay Bridge / Spence Parkway tolls billed?
- What is the fee to add another driver?
- What is the early-return or extension policy on a weekly rate?
